MSRB Launches EMMA for Smartphones

WASHINGTON — Smartphone users may now have an easier time accessing municipal market data.

Over the weekend, the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board launched EMMA Mobile, a smartphone version of the board's Electronic Municipal Market Access website.

The new site optimizes "certain elements of the municipal bond disclosure site for mobile display," giving smartphone users an improved search function and easier navigation to muni bond trade price information and market statistics, the MSRB said in a media release.

"EMMA Mobile will help regular users navigate key features of the site from anywhere with a cell phone," said executive director Lynnette Kelly in the release. Kelly called the system "another way of ensuring investors and other municipal market stakeholders are able to easily access municipal securities information."

Users who view the EMMA website, emma.msrb.org, on their smartphones are now automatically redirected to the EMMA Mobile home page, which has fewer links and less content than the full EMMA site.

The EMMA Mobile home page includes a box where users can look up a security by name or CUSIP, and links to "Muni Search," "Recent Trades," and "Market Statistics" pages.

After users have found a security, they can click on expandable boxes to view official statements and continuing disclosure information, recent trade activity, and securities ratings.

Smartphone users can still access the main EMMA website by clicking on the "full site" link on the EMMA Mobile home page.
