Milwaukee ISM Index Slides to 47.7 in May

The seasonally adjusted Milwaukee Report on Business slipped to 47.7 in May from 48.1 in April, the Institute for Supply Management-Milwaukee reported Friday.

New orders received fell to 44.1 from 57.4, production declined to 42.7 from 45.1, employment gained to 56.6 from 52.6, supplier deliveries grew to 49.7 from 38.6, and backlog of orders fell to 40.9 from 46.7.

Inventory levels dropped to 45.5 from 46.7, customers' inventories rose to 50.0 from 46.4, prices climbed to 45.5 from 36.7, exports grew to 43.8 from 40.9 and imports increased to 56.3 from 54.2.

The blue collar diffusion index fell to 47.8 from 52.6, while the white collar diffusion index rose to 52.2 from 44.6.
