New orders for manufactured goods increased 2.1% in March, after dipping a revised 0.1% in February, first reported as a 0.2% increase, the Commerce Department reported Monday.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected a 2.0% jump in March orders.
Excluding transportation, new orders were flat, after a 0.1% rise the previous month. Excluding defense, orders gained 1.3%, after a 0.1% increase in February.
Durable goods orders grew 4.4% after a 1.4% decrease in February, while nondurable goods orders were down 0.3% after a 1.1% rise in February.
