“Mark has played a leading role in our efforts to improve the city’s public financing, save taxpayers money, and expand opportunities for talented minority and women owned businesses. I know he will bring that same energy and enthusiasm to broadening our economic development efforts,” Liu said in a statement.

Kim holds a Ph.D in public policy from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, a J.D. from Cornell Law Scholl, and a B.A. from Northwestern Unviversity.

Before he became assistant comptroller for public finance in March 2010, Kim worked as an investment banker at Fidelity Capital Markets, Goldman Sachs and UBS Investment Bank.

“I am honored by this appointment and share the comptroller’s dedication to growing our economy and investing in the future of New York City and its people,” Kim said.

He will assume his new role effective immediately.
