Construction spending increased 1.5% in January, the Commerce Department said Tuesday, and is 10.4% above the January 2015 level.
In December, construction spending rose a revised 0.6%, first reported as a 0.1% increase.
Spending on private construction grew 0.5% in the month, while public construction gained 4.5%.
Residential construction held steady.
Economists polled by Thomson Reuters predicted a 0.4% increase in construction spending.
