ISD Offers Voter Options

The Ysleta Independent School District is offering voters a ballot menu with five options for a proposed $160 million general obligation bond package. The election is set for May 8.

Officials said the projects and associated funding were split into separate questions to ensure voters that proceeds are spent as promised. The district has not used the multi-part option in its previous elections.

The district is seeking $59 million for improved air conditioning systems and energy management equipment, $48 million for two new elementary schools, $25 million for renovations at high schools, and $13 million to bring facilities into compliance with mobility requirements.

District voters approved a $250 million, single-part bond package in 2004.

Ysleta ISD is the second-largest school district in El Paso County with some 45,000 students. It operates seven high schools, 13 middle schools, and 36 elementary schools. Its GOs are enhanced to triple-A with coverage by the Texas Permanent School Fund program.
