Final Sept. U. of Mich. Index at 87.2 vs. 91.9 in Aug.

The University of Michigan's final September consumer sentiment index reading was 87.2, compared to the preliminary September 85.7, and the final August 91.9, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 78.2, compared to the preliminary September 76.4, and the final August 83.4, and the preliminary August 83.8.

The current conditions index was 101.2, compared to the preliminary September 100.3, and the final August 105.1, and the preliminary August 107.1.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 86.9 reading for the main index, 100.6 for current conditions, and 77.0 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.7%, compared to 2.7% in August, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.8% in August.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
