WASHINGTON - The producer price index rose 0.4% in February on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
The increase followed a 0.1% increase in the index for January.
Core producer prices, excluding food and energy, rose 0.2%.
The February increase in the price index was less than the 0.5% gain projected by economists polled by Thomson Reuters, but the core price index increase matched their median 0.2% estimated gain.
Year-over-year the overall PPI was up 3.3%, while the core rose 3.0% year-over-year.
