EBR PAC Backs Bond Vote

The political action committee supporting East Baton Rouge Parish’s request for $901 million of bonds at Saturday’s election said last week it had raised $439,280 for its campaign efforts.

Reports filed by the Committee for the Future of East Baton Rouge showed the it raised $85,030 from Oct. 6 through Oct. 25. The PAC raised $354,250 in the prior reporting period that ended Oct. 5.

The largest contribution in the latest reporting period was $20,000 from CH2M Hill, of Englewood, Colo., a contractor for sewer system upgrades in the parish. Armada Hoffler of Virginia Beach, Va., which plans to build two hotels near the Baton Rouge convention center if the bond proposal passes, contributed $12,500. The Baton Rouge Tea Party, which opposes the bond program, said it has raised about $11,000 for its effort.

Voters will decide Saturday on a proposed 0.5% sales tax and a property tax  hike to support $901 million of 30-year bonds. Proceeds would provide $356.4 million for public safety, $225 million for the Alive educational and entertainment complex, $178.3 million for drainage fixes, and $141.3 million for renovating and expanding the convention center.
