Brewer Budget Aide Quits

Tom Manos has resigned as Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer’s deputy chief of staff for finance following the recent collapse of a legislative budget compromise that lasted only a few hours.

Manos was one of Brewer’s first appointments when she became governor this year following Gov. Janet Napolitano’s confirmation as head of the Department of Homeland Security. Manos spent 25 years with Maricopa County, and was the county’s chief financial officer when he accepted the state post.

Eileen Klein, director of the Governor’s Office of Strategic Planning and Budgeting, was named to replace Manos. She will continue her role at the budget office.

Manos said he plans to work part time for the Maricopa County Industrial Development Authority, and continue his efforts on issues involving the homeless.
