Prospects for bringing all New York subway stations to a state of good repair are dim even if the MTA gets full capital funding, said a watchdog organization.

Averil Smith, a CPA with more than 23 years of private sector financial experience, has been tapped as the new comptroller for the Town of North Hempstead on Long Island.

New York City paid out $495 million in settlements and judgments in fiscal 2013 and a further $550.3 million in 2014, said city Comptroller Scott Stringer.
