WASHINGTON — Import prices fell 0.4% in August, while export prices rose 0.5%, the Labor Department reported Tuesday, following an unrevised 0.3% increase in import prices in July.

The federal government posted a $134.2 billion budget deficit for August, $44 billion or 48% larger, because of special factors, than the $90.5 billion deficit of August 2010.

Import prices fell 0.4% in August, while export prices rose 0.5%, the Labor Department reported Tuesday. That follows an unrevised 0.3% increase in import prices in July.
