Muni Bond Index Yields Plunge for Week Ended March 19

The weekly average yield to maturity of The Bond Buyer Municipal Bond Index, which is based on 40 long-term bond prices, decreased six basis points to 4.25% from 4.31% for the week ended March 12.

The Bond Buyer's 20-Bond GO Index of 20-year general obligation fell 10 basis points to 3.52% from 3.62% from the previous week. It is at its lowest level in six weeks

The 11-Bond GO Index of higher-grade 20-year GO yields declined 10 basis points to 3.37% from 3.47%. It is at its lowest level since Feb. 5 when it stood at 3.34%.

The Bond Buyer's Revenue Bond Index was 12 basis points lower to 4.19% from 4.31% the previous week. It is at its lowest level since Feb. 5 when it was 4.16%.

The yield on the U.S. Treasury's 10-year note jumped dropped 12 basis points to 1.98% from 2.10%, while the yield on the Treasury's 30-year bond decreased 14 basis points to 2.54% from 2.68% in the week prior.
