LA Mayor-Elect Names Chief of Staff

Los Angeles Mayor-elect Eric Garcetti announced on Monday that Ana Guerrero will serve as his administration’s chief of staff.

Guerrero has been with Garcetti’s city council office since 2001. She was named district director in 2003 and became chief of staff in 2008. Garcetti served as council president from 2006 to 2012.

“Ana was the key player in my work to cut budget costs and revitalize neighborhoods. Together, we’re going to build on this foundation with new solutions to fix City Hall and strengthen communities citywide,” Garcetti said.

Guerrero began her career in Northern California as a community organizer with the Sonoma County Organizing Project where she focused on finding jobs and affordable housing for low- and middle-income families.

She came to Los Angeles in 1995 to become the lead organizer of the United Neighborhoods Organization. While there, Guerrero led a campaign that helped more than 5,000 immigrants become naturalized, politically active citizens. She also provided technical assistance to community-based organizations through the Center for Community Change.

“I am honored and humbled for this opportunity to serve the people of Los Angeles,” Guerrero said. “Mayor-elect Garcetti’s back to basics agenda is what Los Angeles needs to move forward, and I’m going to make sure he has the tools he needs to get the job done.”

Garcetti has set up a website where people can apply to work in his administration.

“I’m focused on creating jobs and solving problems in our neighborhoods, and there is no one more expert and experienced in making government work better for the people of L.A. than Ana Guerrero,” Garcetti said.
