U.S. government ran $8.0 billion surplus in Sept.

The federal government ran an $8.0 billion surplus in September, the Treasury Department reported Friday.

Outlays in September totaled $340.772 billion. Receipts totaled $348.722 billion.

In September 2016, the government ran a $33.4 billion surplus.

In August, the government ran a $107.689 billion deficit.

For the fiscal year to date, the government has a $665.7 billion deficit, compared to a $585.6 billion deficit for the similar period in fiscal 2016.
