Univ. of Mich. Index up in June

The University of Michigan's preliminary June consumer sentiment index reading was 99.3 compared to the final May read of 98.0 and the preliminary May reading of 98.8, according to market sources.

The preliminary June expectations index was 87.4 compared to the final May 89.1 and the preliminary May 89.5.

The current conditions index was 117.9, compared to the final May 111.8 and the preliminary May 113.3.

Economists polled by IFR Markets had predicted a 98.5 reading for the main index, 112.9 for current conditions and 89.7 for expectations.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.6%, compared to 2.5% in May, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.9%, compared to 2.8% in May.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
