Univ. of Mich. Aug. Index At 63.0, Up From 61.2 in July

The University of Michigan’s final August consumer sentiment index reading was 63.0 compared to the final July reading of 61.2, the preliminary July reading of 56.6, and the final June reading of 56.4, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 57.9 compared to 53.5 last month, 48.3 earlier in July, and 49.2 in June. The current conditions index was 71.0 compared to 73.1 in July, 69.5 earlier in July, and 67.6 in June.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 3.2% in August compared to 3.2% in July, 3.4% earlier in July, and 3.4% in June. The one-year inflation expectation index was 4.8% in August compared to 5.1% in July, 5.3% earlier in the month, and 5.1% in June.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
