The Treasury Department said Monday it will sell $40 billion of four-week discount bills Wednesday.
There are currently $60.000 billion of four-week bills outstanding.
The bills settle Jan. 3 and are due Jan. 31.
Federal Reserve banks hold nothing in maturing bills in their own accounts.
