NEW YORK – Retail sales rose 3.7% in the week ended May 12, after a 2.6% rise the week before, according to the weekly retail sales report released by Johnson Redbook Tuesday.

Month-to-date, May was up 3.1% compared to May 2011, better than the expected 2.8% gain. Sales were down 0.8% from April, also better than an expected 1.1% decline.
