Retail sales grew 2.5% in the week ended April 6, after a 3.5% increase the week before, according to the weekly retail sales report released by Johnson Redbook Tuesday.
Month-to-date, March was up 2.9% compared to March of last year (relative to target of a 3.3% gain). Month-over-month showed a 0.7% gain (relative to a target of a 1.2% gain).
"April has been one of the worst-performing months over the past five years, which we believe warrants continued caution," BlackRock strategists said.
