Retail sales gained 1.5% in the week ended Aug. 25, after a 1.9% rise the previous week, according to the weekly retail sales report released by Johnson Redbook Tuesday.

August was up 1.8% from August 2011 (target: a 1.7% increase), while sales fell 0.4% from July (target: a 0.5% decline).
