Pope Flynn expands its practice with two new attorneys in Charleston

BRADENTON, Fla. – South Carolina-based Pope Flynn is expanding with a new law office and a third practice to complement its focus on public finance and state and local governments.

Pope Flynn’s new practice, covering procurement law and construction, architecture and engineering and complex tort litigation, will be based in Charleston, S.C.

Pat Flynn, who recently was a partner and owner of the Charleston-based law firm Robertson Hollingsworth & Flynn, will head up the new office.

Flynn will be joined by Michael Allen, whose practice focuses on complex tort and construction litigation.

“With the growing number of clients we serve in the Lowcountry, we recognized the need to add a fourth office in this booming region,” said Joe Lucas, managing partner of Pope Flynn. “We're thrilled to have found the right place, the right time, and the right people in Pat and Michael to do that.”

Lucas said the firm’s attorneys travel the state to work with clients, and the new Charleston office will serve as another base for operations and consultation.

The procurement and litigation practice will allow attorneys to advise public and private clients on construction and other project development issues, from procurement and contract negotiation to dispute resolution and litigation, the firm said.

Flynn, who has represented clients throughout South Carolina, has more than 20 years of experience in complex construction and design defect litigation, federal, state and local government contract formation and procurement, major commercial insurance liability litigation, dispute resolution, and complex tort and commercial litigation.

His clients have included the prime contractor in the recent $175 million improvement project at the Charleston International Airport.

Flynn, a frequent speaker at events for local and regional construction and design professional organizations, received a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from the University of South Carolina.

Allen most recently worked at Richard Wern Lawyers in Charleston.

Allen received a bachelor’s degree from Clemson University and a law degree from the Charleston School of Law.

Margate Pope, founding partner of the firm, said Pope Flynn has worked in the Lowcountry since its inception in 2008.

“I began my public finance career in an office in downtown Charleston,” she said, “so I'm very glad we have opened a Charleston office at last.”

Pope Flynn also has offices in Columbia, Charlotte, and Spartanburg.
