Healthcare advisory firm adds Texas professional

CHICAGO – Illinois-based healthcare advisory firm Melio & Co. has added a Texas presence with the hiring of Cindy Newton, a veteran of finance and treasury operations at the state’s not-for-profit health care system .

Newton will work from Temple, Texas. Before joining Melio & Co. last month as a managing director, Newton served as associate vice president of treasury services at Baylor Scott & White Health.

Newton previously served as associate vice president of treasury services at Scott & White Healthcare. Dallas-based Baylor and Temple-based Scott & White merged in 2013 to create the largest system in Texas. She joined Scott & White in 2002. She previously served as chief financial officer at Best-Rite Manufacutring and was CFO and controller at First National Bank in Cameron, Texas.

“Her career in healthcare, coupled with a previous career history in banking and manufacturing, combine to create a unique understanding of complex operational issues and financial transactions and enabled her to drive continuous process improvement in treasury functions, solutions, and operations across the healthcare system,” firm founder Mark Melio said in an announcement of Newton’s hire.

Newton joined a team of nine others including Melio who provide independent advisory services in the not-for-profit healthcare sector. The firm has offices in Chicago, New York, Portland, St. Louis, and now Temple. Melio, a former public finance banker, launched the firm in 2009.
