Gibbons Seeks Budget Cuts

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons asked state agencies this week to prepare another round of budget cuts, according to published reports.

The governor is asking agency heads to prepare scenarios for cutting up to 14% from their workload budgets for the 2009-2011 biennium, the reports said.

In addition to being hard-hit from the fallout from the subprime mortgage crisis, Nevada has begun to experience weakening revenue intake from gambling taxes, another pillar of the state budget.
