Gacka to lead S&P not-for-profit health sector

DALLAS – S&P Global Ratings has promoted Ken Gacka to the position of analytical manager for not-for-profit health care ratings, the company said.

Gacka previously was a coordinator for analysts in development and implementation of credit rating methodologies and models.

The announcement follows the departure earlier this month of Kevin Holloran, sector leader for not-for-profit healthcare, to Fitch Ratings.

Gacka will remain in S&P’s Centennial, Colo., office and will report to Adom Rosengarten, managing director and lead analytical manager in the U.S. Public Finance Enterprise Ratings group. Gacka will also work closely with senior health care analyst Martin Arrick, San Francisco-based managing director and sector leader for the not-for-profit health-care sector.

“Ken assumes this leadership analytical role at a critical time in the U.S. not-for-profit health care sector as the industry faces significant changes including heightened M&A activity, evolving business models, and regulation, all of which could have a potential impact on the health care municipal credits that we follow,” S&P managing director Tina Morris, head of U.S. public finance, said in an internal announcement.

Gacka’s promotion returns him to the health care ratings practice where he started as a credit analyst covering municipal debt including those issued by multi-hospital systems, acute-care community hospitals, and academic medical centers across the United States.

Before joining S&P in 2009, Gacka worked as a senior consultant with Ernst & Young’s health care practice for three years, specializing in strategic planning and financial modeling projects for hospitals and health care systems across the country. Earlier in his career, Ken served as a budget manager for the Conemaugh Health System in Johnstown, Pa., where he worked four years.

He holds an MBA and a bachelor of science in accounting and finance from the University of Pittsburgh.
