Fed Delays Guidelines On Capital Adequacy

Citing financial stress, the Federal Reserve Board of Governors yesterday delayed the imposition of new capital adequacy guidelines for bank holding companies.

The Fed delayed from March 31, 2009, to March 31, 2011, a set of rules that would have tightened bank holding companies’ capital requirements by imposing new capital adequacy guidelines on trust preferred securities and the definition of capital.

The amendments to the Fed’s capital adequacy guidelines had originally been given final approval in March 2005, before the financial crisis hit.
