District to Vote on $57M

The Putnam County School Board last week approved a voter referendum on $56.7 million of bonds for school construction projects. The vote is set for Aug. 29.

The West Virginia School Building Authority has agreed to contribute $21.7 million for the construction costs if voters approve the bond deal, the Charleston Daily Mail reported. The district’s last voter-approved bond financing was in 1976.

The funding would provide new facilities at four schools, which have suffered from overcrowding. The Putnam School District serves more than 9,000 students in 23 schools.
