Consumer Sentiment Rises in August

The University of Michigan’s preliminary August consumer sentiment index reading was 61.7, compared to the final July 61.2 reading, the preliminary July 56.6 reading, and the final June 56.4 reading, according to market sources.

Economists polled by IFR Markets had predicted a 62.0 reading for the index.

The expectations index was 56.8, compared to 53.5 last month, 48.3 earlier in July, and 49.2 in June.

The current conditions index was 69.3, compared to 73.1 in July, 69.5 earlier in July, and 67.6 in June.
