Chain store sales gained 1.0% in the week ended Sept. 8, although year-over-year sales slowed to a 3.4% rise, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Snapshot released Tuesday.

"Overall it was a good week for the industry as more industry sectors enjoyed small increases — though grocery stores seemed to benefit the most," Niemira added.
