Chain Store Sales Up 0.7% in Week

NEW YORK – Weekly chain store sales increased 0.7% in the week ended March 10, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Index.

Year-over-year, retail strengthened to a 2.3% rise.

"Sales in March have been mixed-adversely affected by severe weather and then turning more moderate," said Michael Niemira, ICSC vice president of research and chief economist. "So far, the improving economy is more than offsetting the drag from more rapidly rising gasoline prices on consumers' discretionary budgets," added Niemira.
