Chain Store Sales Drop 0.8% in Week Ended May 5

NEW YORK – Chain store sales decreased 0.8% in the week ended May 5, as consumers bought “staple” items, especially groceries, according to the ICSC-Goldman Sachs Weekly Chain Store Sales Snapshot, released Tuesday.

With Mother's Day this weekend, retailers can expect more discretionary spending in the current week, the report said.
