Kansas’ budget shortfall for fiscal 2009, which had been estimated at $141.2 million in early November, has grown to at least $186 million, the state Legislative Research Department told lawmakers last week.

Pat Conroy, director of the department, said revenue in November and December was $44.6 million less than expected. He said he does not expect a turnaround in collections for at least 18 to 24 months.
