Aug. Consumer Sentiment Down Slightly From July

The University of Michigan’s preliminary August consumer sentiment index reading was 65.7 compared to the preliminary August reading of 63.2, the final 66.0 reading in July, and 70.8 in June, according to market sources.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 64.5 reading for the index. The expectations index was 65.0, compared to 62.1 earlier in the month, 63.2 final in July, and 69.2 in June.

The current conditions index was 66.6 in August, compared to 64.9 at mid-month, 70.5 last month, and the 73.2 final in June. Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 66.5 reading for the current conditions index and 62.1 for the expectations index.
