John Markowitz serves as Treasurer at the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority in Boston, Massachusetts. The MBTA is the oldest and fifth-largest mass transit agency in the United States. John manages the Authority’s $5 billion debt portfolio and $1.5 billion in cash and investments. He also helps manage its annual operating budget and funding for its $8 billion long-term capital investment strategy. Previously John worked at MassDevelopment, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ development and finance agency, managing infrastructure bond programs including value capture and tax increment financing. Before that he worked at Stifel Nicolaus as Vice President of Public Finance underwriting infrastructure bonds for municipalities across the U.S. John is a frequent speaker on infrastructure finance and holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Virginia.
