Volvo Group's touring coach and bus assembly division Prevost has opened a production line in sister company Nova Bus' expanded Plattsburgh, N.Y., facility, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Dec. 22.

The $26 million expansion project is tied to an contract with New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority to build 300 Commuter Over the Road Buses valued at $164 million. Combined with a $195 million MTA contract for 414 Nova Bus buses for the MTA's New York City Transit, the number of employees at the facility will expand to more than 250 people.

This production line is the first in the United States for Prevost, of Sainte-Claire, Quebec.

Nova Bus, in Plattsburgh for five years, will deliver 414 local buses to MTA New York City Transit, with the potential of providing up to 700 additional vehicles. This is the largest single order for buses NYC Transit has made to Nova Bus since it began manufacturing transit buses for the authority.

The new buses are scheduled for delivery between mid-2015 and mid-2016.
