Rosenstiel Reappointed to CalSTRS Board

LOS ANGELES — Paul Rosenstiel, a managing director of public finance at Stifel, Nicolaus & Co, has been reappointed to the California State Teachers' Retirement Board by California Governor Jerry Brown.

Rosenstiel, 64, a former deputy state treasurer, has served on the board since 2011.

The board oversees the California State Teachers' Retirement System, which serves 868,493 members and had assets of $190 million as of Nov. 30, 2014, according to its website.

Rosenstiel, a former principal at De La Rosa and Co. from 2009 to 2014 and from 1995 to 2005, joined the San Francisco office of Stifel after it acquired De La Rosa in January 2014.

He worked as a policy director in the Steve Westly for Governor campaign from 2005 to 2006. Next, he was named deputy state treasurer at the California State Treasurer's Office, working there from 2007 to 2009.

Rosenstiel, a Democrat, is chair of the California Budget Project board of directors and a member of the Public Policy Institute of California Statewide Leadership Council.

Early in his career, he worked as an associate at Dean, Sitter and Reynolds from 1983 to 1986 and then as a vice president of public finance at First Boston Corporation from 1986 to 1995.

He has worked as an economics consultant to governments and real estate developers and taught economics at Golden Gate University and San Francisco State University.

He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business. This position requires state Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
