Rhode Island Treasurer's Chief of Staff Departs

Andrew Roos, the Rhode Island Treasury chief of staff the past 2-1/2 years, will leave for the private sector, according to state General Treasurer Seth Magaziner.

Deputy treasurer and general counsel Jeff Padwa will fill the interim position starting Sept. 8, said Magaziner. Roos will continue in an advisory role.

Roos joined Treasury under Magaziner's predecessor, Gina Raimondo, who was elected governor last year.

Padwa represented Treasury in its negotiations to resolve most outstanding lawsuits related to the 2011 pension overhaul bill, and also worked on refinancing state debt. Previously, Padwa was Providence city solicitor under then-Mayor Angel Taveras.

Additionally, David Ortiz: will succeed Shana Autiello as communications director, also on Sept. 8. Ortiz held the same position for Taveras and his successor, Jorge Elorza.

Elorza promoted Evan England from press secretary to communications director. England's previous experience includes political and communications work in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
