Puerto Rico Oversight Board Seeks Fiscal Plan Comments

The Puerto Rico Oversight Board is seeking comments on Gov. Alejandro García Padilla's presented fiscal plan.

The board announced people and organizations have until 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 to submit their comments.

Comments should be addressed to chairman of the board José Carri-n, III and sent to comments@oversightboardpr.gov. The board suggests that commenters use a particular form with questions on it to submit their comments: http://www.juntasupervision.pr.gov/oversightboard/Documents/Fiscal_Plan_Comment_Form_11_9_2016.pdf.

All comments will be posted to the board's website unless the writer requests confidentiality.

Following the requirements of the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act, the governor submitted the fiscal plan to the board on Oct. 14. In it Puerto Rico's government outlines how it sees its current fiscal difficulties. It presents an approach to the next 10 fiscal years involving numerous changes to local government practices but no significant new federal aid. In this scenario the government said even without paying any of its debt it would face a $6 billion funding gap in the period.

In order to have money to pay some of the debt due, Puerto Rico states that the government needs the federal government to aid Puerto Rico in various ways.
