Puerto Rico Economic Activity Declines

Puerto Rico's economic activity index declined by 0.6% in December from November.

On a year-over-year basis the index was down in December by 0.5%.

The Government Development Bank for Puerto Rico creates the index based on four economic statistics. Compared to December 2014, in December 2015 two of the four statistics were up and two were down.

Total non-farm payroll employment was up 0.3% and power generation gained 2.4%.

On the other hand, gasoline consumption was down 0.4% and cement sales plunged 14.9%.
