Perez to Run Massachusetts Debt Management

Massachusetts Treasurer Deborah Goldberg named Sue Perez to lead the commonwealth's debt management department as assistant treasurer.

"I am confident that her in-depth experience and financial background will serve the people of Massachusetts well," Goldberg said in an April 1 statement.

Perez, who succeeds Colin MacNaught at debt management, will also remain as executive director of the Massachusetts Clean Water Trust, a position she has held since March 2012.

Maureen Valente, originally tapped in January to run debt management, Clean Water Trust and the Massachusetts School Building Authority, will concentrate on the latter. According to the Boston Globe, Valente will fill a new chief executive position at the authority, which Goldberg wants to more firmly control.

Perez has led the Clean Water Trust through two new-money bond issuances, totaling about $948 million. They include a recent issuance of $228 million in green bonds and two refunding series totaling roughly $690 million.

Perez has more than 25 years' experience in accounting, audit and financial management, including a stretch at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. She lives in Foxborough.
