House Staffer Denies He's Puerto Rico Oversight Board Executive Director

U.S. House of Representatives staff person Bill Cooper denied reports he has been made the executive director of the Puerto Rico Oversight Board.

Caribbean News, Metro Puerto Rico, and El Nuevo Día have all reported that the board has named Cooper as executive director.

Cooper said Wednesday that the reports brought to mind the quip often attributed to Mark Twain, "Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."

He said the board must first formally convene and then elect a chairman. The chairman must then appoint an executive director with the consent of the board, he continued.

The board has not yet formally convened.

Cooper is a staff person on the House Natural Resources Committee.

Puerto Rico Rep. Rafael Hernández Montañez held a press conference Sunday opposing Cooper's possible appointment and the actual appointment of Carlos García to the board.
