Former MTA Chief Walder to Run Citi Bike Firm

Jay Walder, a former chairman and chief executive of New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority, was named chief executive of Alta Bicycle Share, which operates New York City's Citi Bike bicycle sharing program.

Alta's new owner, Bikeshare Holdings LLC, made the announcement Oct. 28 along with the news of the purchase.

Walder, who chaired the MTA from October 2009 to October 2011, most recently was chief executive of MTR Corp. in Hong Kong. He has also served as managing director for finance and planning at Transport for London.

"We see a tremendous opportunity to leverage private investment capital and build highly engaging corporate and media relationships to create and enhance bike share partnerships in key urban environments," Walder said in a statement.
