Pennsylvania Treasury earns transparency award

The Pennsylvania Treasury has received an award from the CIO division of IDG Communications Inc. for its transparency portal, whose tools include tracking the commonwealth's general fund in real time.

“It is an honor to win a CIO 100 award and to be recognized for our commitment to Pennsylvania taxpayers," said state Treasurer Joe Torsella. “I’m proud of the innovation that we’ve brought to open the state’s checkbook, and that we were able to develop every aspect of the portal in-house without any added expense to taxpayers.”

Treasury is the first Pennsylvania state agency in more than a decade to receive the honor, Torsella added.

Torsella unveiled the portal in February 2017. Users can track the past three years of commonwealth expenditures by department, find information about general obligation bond debt and the general fund, and see Treasury investment pool balances, all in real time.

Winners of the 2018 CIO 100 award were announced last week, honoring 100 organizations worldwide for driving digital business growth through tech innovation. For 31 years, the CIO 100 award has recognized organizations worldwide that exemplify the highest level of operation and strategic excellence in information technology.

This is the portal's third award in five months. In December, Treasury accepted the Digital Edge 50 Award and the Pennsylvania Excellence in Technology Award. Both awards recognize innovative technology and digital transformations.
