Wilmington Trust Adds Three to Global Capital Markets Group

Wilmington Trust, an institutional client services and wealth advisory firm, has expanded its corporate trust business in its Boston office with the addition of three industry veterans from BNY Mellon.

The firm has added Julie Balerna as vice president, Clay Cardozo as regional manager, and Deb Daniello as senior relationship manager as a part of its Global Capital Markets Group.

"The addition of this A-team to our corporate trust group is a big score," said Jack Beeson, head of the group. "This team already has a long and successful track record in the New England region. We're eager to utilize and build on their experience as we continue growing our corporate trust business across the U.S."

The new hires are a part of Wilmington's effort to open a corporate trust shop in Boston to support its growing client base.

"Our goal is to continue to be the trustee of choice for municipalities and issuers who require expertise and superior service in this market," Beeson said. "We are a leading provider of corporate trust services around the globe. We will continue to pursue other expansion opportunities to support the challenges our clients and their organizations face, as well as provide the specialized expertise they require by understanding the financing structures our clients need to grow and expand."

Wilmington has also recently expanded its presence on the West Coast in California and Texas.

Balerna will manage sales and business development in both corporate and public finance markets. The sectors she focuses on include municipal, higher education, housing, and health care. She will work closely with Robert Weiss, Wilmington's East Coast corporate escrow sales leader and will report to Pat Trainor, business development department manager.
Previously, Balerna spent a decade as vice president of business development in Mellon's corporate trust division. Before that, she worked at U.S. Bank and State Street Bank in similar roles.

Balerna is also a board member of Boston Women in Public Finance, a networking and education association for women in the New England area.

Cardozo is assigned to lead planning, strategy, product development, and risk management for the New England market.

He joined Wilmington after working at Mellon for about 18-years. Most recently, he served as vice president and senior relationship manager overseeing various large issuers in the Northeast.

With over 20-years of corporate trust experience, Daniello will grow and maintain the business with corporate trust and escrow clients.

Both Cardozo and Daniello will report to Robert Brown, leader of Wilmington's public finance and agency group.

Previously, she was the vice president and senior transaction manager at Mellon.
