Susan Gaffney Joins Municipal Advisor Group as Executive Director

WASHINGTON — Susan Gaffney has been as hired executive director of the National Association of Municipal Advisors.

She joins NAMA after having been director of the federal liaison center for the Government Finance Officers Association here for about 12 years through 2012. She has continued doing part-time work on training and other issues for GFOA since then, after having moved to California to help with family matters.

Gaffney said she will continue to reside in California.

Before joining GFOA, Gaffney had worked for think tank specializing in trade and international issues.

"We are pleased to bring Susan on board as the municipal advisor profession adjusts to a new normal following implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act," said Terri Heaton, NAMA's president. "NAMA's goals to provide educational and professional resources to its members will be enhanced with the expertise and skills Susan brings to the table."

Larry Kidwell, NAMA's vice president and chair of its public affairs committee, said, "There are numerous regulatory, legislative and market practice initiatives requiring NAMA's input. Susan will direct the organization on these matters and help grow the organization as a whole."

NAMA plans to hold its annual conference in Charleston, S.C. Oct. 7-9.
