WASHINGTON - Antonio "Tony" Martini, the president of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, joined Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP on Friday as a partner in the firm's Boston office.

Martini, who advises clients on public-finance tax matters, moved to Hinckley from Locke Lord LLP in Boston. He is serving a one-year term as NABL president that ends in September.

"I'm very excited to be on the Hinckley Allen public finance platform," Martini said. He said he was interested in joining the firm because he has a lot of respect for the other lawyers at the firm and has an opportunity to be involved in growing the firm's public finance practice regionally and nationally.

Martini also said he finds it powerful that his new firm has worked with NABL for many years. He said he is happy to have a team that will have his back while he finishes his term as NABL president.

Stephen Weyl, head of Hinckley Allen's public finance group, said the firm is "delighted" to have Martini. Weyl called Martini "one of the finest tax lawyers in the country."

Hinckley Allen has about 15 lawyers in its public finance group spread across its offices in Boston; Providence, R.I.; Concord, N.H.; Hartford, Conn.; and New York's Wall Street. The group is continuing to grow. While most of the firm's public finance work is in the Northeast, its lawyers work on deals all over the country, Weyl said.

The firm has more than 150 lawyers and has existed in some form for more than 100 years. It has "deep roots in New England," Martini said.

Hinckley Allen serves as a bond counsel firm for the state of Rhode Island as well as the Rhode Island Health and Educational Building Corporation. It has been borrower's counsel to Phillips Exeter Academy and Care New England Health System, Weyl said.

Martini said he is looking forward to continuing to work with the Vermont Economic Development Authority as bond counsel and with Bank of America Merrill Lynch as underwriter's counsel and remarketing agent counsel.

Martini joined a legacy firm of Locke Lord called Palmer & Dodge in 1998. Palmer & Dodge became Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge. That firm became Edwards Wildman Palmer and then merged with Locke Lord in January.

He received his bachelor's degree from Union College in 1986 and earned his law degree from Columbia University in 1991. After graduating law school, he spent a year as a clerk for a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Seattle. He then worked at Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe in California.
