Preliminary September U. of Mich. Index at 84.6 vs. 82.5 in August

The University of Michigan's preliminary September consumer sentiment index reading was 84.6, compared to the final August 82.5 and the preliminary August 79.2, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 75.6, compared to the final August 71.3, and the preliminary August 66.2.

The current conditions index was 98.5, compared to the final August 99.8, and the preliminary August 99.6.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted an 83.2 reading for the main index.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.8%, compared to 2.9% in August, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 3.0%, compared to 3.2% in August.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
