Preliminary Dec. U. of Mich. Index at 98.0 vs. 93.8 in Nov.

The University of Michigan's preliminary December consumer sentiment index reading was 98.0, compared to the final November 93.8 and the preliminary November 91.6, according to market sources.

The expectations index was 88.9, compared to the final November 85.2 and the preliminary November 82.5.

The current conditions index was 112.1, compared to the final November 107.3 and the preliminary November 105.9.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters had predicted a 94.2 reading for the main index, 87.0 for expectations and 109.0 for current conditions.

The five-year inflation expectation index was 2.5%, compared to 2.6% in November, while the one-year inflation expectation index was 2.3%, compared to 2.4% in November.

The University of Michigan index is not released to the press, but only to paying subscribers.
