Jobless Claims Up 10,000 to 281,000 in June 27 Week

WASHINGTON — Initial unemployment claims rose 10,000 to 281,000 in the June 27 week, suggesting a pretty steady state at low levels.

This is consistent with continued robust growth in jobs and put the 4-week average at just under 275,000.

There were no special factors.

State-level data has been advanced one week to coincide with the current week's total number, and shows a jump in claims in New Jersey before seasonal adjustment.

Continuing claims were up 15,000 to 2.264 million in the June 20 week.

Unless there is a sudden jump in claims in mid-July, the unemployment claims data are signaling that there should be continued gains in payrolls next month.
