Initial Jobless Claims Rise 1,000 to 295,000 in Week Ended April 18

Initial jobless claims gained 1,000 to 295,000 in the week ended April 18, the Labor Department said Thursday.

Claims for the week ended April 11 were unrevised at 294,000.

Continuing jobless claims were 2.325 million in the week ended April 11, up from the revised 2.275 million the week before, initially reported as 2.268 million.

Economists polled by Thomson Reuters expected 290,000 initial claims and 2.295 million continuing claims.

The four-week average of initial claims was up 1,750 in the week ended April 18 to 284,500.
